The First ODI will kick off at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica, with the second ODI to follow at the same venue after a one-day break on June 28. The third and fourth ODIs will be played at Beausejour Stadium, St Lucia on July 3 and 5. Mr Peter Hutton, COO, Taj Television said, “The exclusive opportunity to watch top tier Cricket live for all cricket lovers in the Middle East is a fantastic prospect and I’m looking forward to the series. We also have T20 winners Pakistan in Sri Lanka from next week and it’s great that Ten Sports and Arab Digital Distribution (ADD) have so much top quality cricket on the channels. The partnership with Ten Sports underlines ADD’s commitment of providing world class sports entertainment to its viewers.” According to an announcement made by Arab Digital Distribution (ADD), the largest pay television management company in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, the four matches will be broadcast live on Ten Sports for all Pehla Silver, Pehla Gold and Firstnet Premium subscribers. The First two ODIs will go live at 18.30 UAE time and the last two ODIs will go live at 17.30 UAE time. “The current West Indies ODI tour can be looked upon as a warm-up for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy in September in South Africa and we at ADD feel privileged to bring all the live action to our viewers in the MENA region. Indeed, our operating philosophy is to bring the best in sporting action from across the world live to our subscribers in the Middle East.” said Mr. Alwyn Rodrigues, Senior Regional Manager – Marketing & Business Development, ADD. The 16-member Indian team, which arrived at Port-of-Spain on June 22, features several new faces to replace some of their star players who have been sidelined by injury. Sachin Tendulkar has been rested to ensure he is fully fit for the Champions Trophy while Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan are nursing shoulder injuries. The West Indies team announced that the star paceman Fidel Edwards, will be rested for the first two ODIs as he is recovering from a lower back injury. But the team remains formidable with the presence of in-form stalwarts like Captain Chris Gayle, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Dwayne Bravo. India are currently ranked No 3 in the ICC ODI ranking, well ahead of the West Indies but the mercurial Caribbean team is playing good cricket at the moment, having sprung a surprise when they beat India by seven wickets in the Super Eights in the recently concluded Twenty20 World Cup, a loss that contributed to the defending champions’ failure to make it through to the semi-finals, and reaching the last four where they eventually lost to Sri Lanka. However, Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni remains confident his team, with star batsman Yuvraj Singh as vice-captain, has the wherewithal to challenge the inconsistent West Indies, saying that although they may have had a very good T20 tournament, the 50-over format would give India more time to settle down. The ODI series is important for both sides ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy which takes place in South Africa and sees a face-off between the eight highest-ranked ODI teams in a one-day tournament that is second in importance only to the ODI Cricket World Cup.
