3 Idiots` grosses over 315 crores in 19 days

Mumbai: Aamir Khan starrer 3 Idiots has made a new record – the film has earned 315 crores worldwide in just 19 days, which makes it the biggest movie at the Box office, claimed the producers of the film.

Breaking previous box office records for Indian films, more than 60 million people in the world have watched 3 Idiots in theatres which has enabled the film to garner the whopping amount.

“`3 Idiots` is unstoppable. That`s the truth. No distributor, no trade expert can predict the business of this film,” said trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

The second week occupancy of the Rajkumar Hirani directed film fell by a mere 28 per cent, indicating a very strong word of mouth for the film. Most multiplexes have added 14 to 21 new shows in the second week.

Trade sources also said it was after a long time that an Indian film has had a large repeat audience. “As a member of the team I am so happy with the kind of success that the film is achieving. I thank Raju, for making the film so well, Vinod, for being such a great producer and Reliance Big Pictures for the kind of release they gave the film,” said Aamir.

3 Idiots is the biggest grosser so far in Aamir`s two-decade-old career. In the UK, the film has retained its position in the top 10 at the British Box Office. The screen count in the US has increased by 25 per cent by the third week.

“I am thrilled and humbled that so many people all over the world have loved this film. It proves Rancho`s mantra true: chase excellence and success will follow,” said producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

“3 Idiots has opened new vistas for the Indian Film Industry. The huge response across continents reinforces our belief that a well-made, well-exploited film can still create magic in the darkened auditorium,” Amit Khanna, chairman, Reliance BIG Entertainment said.

Big B lets in on his role as the ‘pop philosopher’ on Bigg Boss

amitabh bachchanAmitabh Bachchan talks about unmasking human nature, in his role as friend, philosopher and guide on Bigg Boss.

There must be something inherently charismatic about Amitabh Bachchan that makes a roomful of people break into spontaneous applause the moment he appears. Even when the people in question are experienced hacks who’ve been made to wait for 30 minutes, they’re completely in thrall with the man acknowledged as India’s biggest movie star.

There’s an easy nonchalance about the way the actor assumes full command of a situation and it’s certainly difficult not to admire the man’s energy—right after this media meet, he’s off to Delhi for another one. Seated on a throne-like chair, this is the first time Bachchan lets in on his role as the ‘pop philosopher’ on season three of Color’s hit reality show, Bigg Boss.

This new concept—Bollywood’s Boss meets Bigg Boss, as the publicity material states—and Bachchan’s decision to associate himself with a show known for its controversial content, raised quite a few eyebrows.

“What is life without controversies?” the thespian jokes, before explaining, “I’ve always been curious about human nature. I’ve often asked myself whether any man ever really shows his true face to the world or whether he’s always wearing a mask. Being part of this show will give me the opportunity to explore these questions and to, hopefully, come away with a few answers.”

The actor’s role as pop philosopher will see him analyse the behavior of the inmates of the house and contextualising events for the audience. He’ll even announce the evictions and talk to the evictees once they’ve left the house.

Sunny Deol goes the SRK-Aamir-Salman way

sunny deolSunny Deol is as different from Aamir, Salman or Shah Rukh as chalk and cheese. So you may wonder what makes them similar? Except of course that they are all big Bollywood actors.

Well, let Juicy Mausi tell you. Apparently, the Punjab da puttar has also been bitten by the ‘publicity’ bug. Well Shah Rukh Khan has always known the importance of marketing one’s movies. Late last year, we found Aamir wisening up to the concept with his film Ghajini. A few weeks back we saw a change in Salman. The Maine Pyaar Kiya boy who has till date never bothered promoting his films and has always believed that a film will do good or bad on its own merit, was seen promoting his film Wanted all over the country.

Sunny Deol too has now learnt a lesson. He has promised the producer Subhash Ghai and director Neeraj Pathak of his forthcoming film Right Yaa Wrong that he will do whatever is required for the promotion of the movie all set to hit the theatres on November 20.

A little birdie tells me that after seeing the rushes of the film, Sunny paaji was so impressed that he called up Ghai immediately and promised his full cooperation for its promotion.

If the buzz is to be believed, he may soon bond with Salman Khan on his TV show Dus Ka Dum to promote the film as well.

I don’t want an apology: Shahrukh

Shahrukh KhanMUMBAI: An apologetic US administration on Sunday asked actor Shah Rukh Khan if he would accept a “sorry” for his two-hour detention at Newark
airport. Shah Rukh is unrelenting. “I don’t want an apology. I just want to go back to my country,” he told TOI.

Within hours of his detention after his name flashed on the immigration officer’s computer screen for a check, US authorities made a turn-around, saying the superstar was not detained because of his surname but his missing baggage.

Shah Rukh said, “There were 20 other people in the same (detention) room. Was even their baggage missing? I was clearly told that my name flashed on their computer and therefore they had to question me.”

He agreed that procedure had to be followed, “but the system is a very unfortunate one”. “When you have issued me a visa and imprints of my fingers and my photograph are on it, I am sure it is there in your system. Why do I have go through the ordeal?”

The actor, who was never allowed to take his personal bodyguard to the US with him for lack of a work permit, often finds it difficult to move around in public places.

“I have a problem with my shoulder (he had a surgery on his shoulder) and if my bodyguard is around he becomes a great help. Unfortunately he does not get a visa. I could easily take him there on a tourist visa, but I don’t believe in breaking the rules.”

Shah Rukh said he had been uncomfortable going to America after facing “problems” in the past. “Post-9/11, one could understand and one did not complain. But this time it was a bit too much. I have travelled to other countries. I never faced any problem in the UK where I am treated like a state guest. They escort me to the car.”

Rakhi wants SRK, not ma, bro for shaadi!

Rakhi Sawant While Rakhi Sawant’s ambitious guest list for her swayamvar includes Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, her mother Jaya and  brother Rakesh haven’t been invited to give their blessings to the classy bride-to-be.

To add insult to injury, on the show, Rakhi has been ranting about the fact that her mother and brother never wanted her to get married.

The duo is so furious with Rakhi that Rakesh even called his sister to fire her and said that she should stop spouting lies on a public platform. “Pehle se hi hamein itna badnaam karke rakha hai, ab aur badnami nahin chahiye,” Rakesh told Mumbai Mirror.

Rakesh added, “Yes, she has not invited us. And let Rakhi marry anybody. How will it affect my mother and me? My sister is talking nonsense when she claims that we don’t want her to get married. Where would Rakhi have been if my mother had not taken pains to bring her up? She has also been saying that she financed my films. I wonder what she is talking about. Aur bhai-behen ka rishta kuch raha hi nahin hai, sab business ho gaya hai.”

We then called Mrs Sawant, who she started crying. She would have dearly loved to be present at her daughter’s swayamvar.

“Mujhe bulaya nahin to main kaise jaoon? I have developed a blockage in my heart. I am very unwell,” Mrs Sawant said. “How can she say that we didn’t want her to ever get married? I sent a message to Rakhi’s secretary that they should let me to appear on the show, so that I can clarify my stand. But my request fell on deaf ears. My blessings are always with her, if and when she gets married. I had put her name in a marriage bureau for three years. But things didn’t work out. At times, the boy was good-looking but the kundli didn’t match and vice versa. Is that my fault?”

On Oct 23, 2007, Mumbai Mirror had reported that Rakhi had tied the knot. We wonder if Rakhi has divorced that man, or else this marriage would be null and void.

However, Mrs Sawant claimed that her daughter was not married before. “She is 30 years old. She was born on 25.11.78. She always wanted to get married in her early days, but then she was a very ambitious girl. Woh bahut aage badna chahti thi. She always wanted a car and flat of her own. Ab sab kuch to nahin mil sakta na? Shaadi karke baith gayi to kaam nahin milega.”

At the time of going to press, our reliable source from the channel in question informed us that only TV faces like Gaurav Chopra, Gauri-Hiten Tejwani, Shweta Gulati, Karan Patel and Rakshanda Khan were confirmed guests at Rakhi’s swayamvar. We wonder if Rakhi’s desire to have Shah Rukh, Salman and Aishwarya will get fulfilled. Not that Mrs Sawant and Rakesh care, we are sure.
